Cosmic Detour - Confirmation

Cosmic Detour is the name of the confirmation program at Holy Cross. It is an opportunity for youth and their families to explore the mystery of faith and how it impacts their life today. During their 7th and 8th grade years, you spend one evening a week together. These evenings may consist of large group time, pastor time, small group discussions, and worship. At the end of their 8th grade year, youth choose an adult member of the congregation as a mentor. In the fall of this same year they attend a weekend retreat and are confirmed on Reformation Sunday.

The theme of Cosmic Detour is "Faith Hits the Road". Studies include: the Lord's Prayer, the Ten Commandments, the Apostles' Creed, Holy Communion, Baptism, Bible Overview, the creation story, Abraham and Sarah, Joseph and his brothers, bondage and deliverance from Egypt, Gospels, the Birth of Jesus, Jesus' teachings, healing, storytelling and more!

Confirmation is...

Families are a big part of the Confirmation program (Cosmic Detour) at Holy Cross. Entering confirmation is a major milestone for families and one more chance to remind them of the Four Keys to faith formation:

  1. Caring conversation
  2. Family Devotions
  3. Family Service
  4. Traditions and rituals.

Parents are small group leaders and serve the suppers at Cosmic Detour on Wednesday nights. Adults in the larger family of the congregation serve as mentors for the ninth graders, keeping them connected after Confirmation.
