About Holy Cross

Located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, we are a community of

faith committed to nurturing the faith of all generations of people

so that they know the love of Christ in their lives.

We are a fairly young congregation, with our roots date back to

1986 when Pastor Doug Olson began knocking on doors after

Our Savior’s Lutheran and Peace Lutheran expressed the need for

a mission start on the north-west side of Sioux Falls.

Holy Cross officially became a member congregation of the

South Dakota Synod, ELCA on April 10, 1987; with approx. 196

charter members.

The church first building was built east of our present location on

Marian Road, but we quickly outgrew that site.  Worship services

were relocated to Roosevelt High School while a new building was

being constructed at our current address. The new building opened

in April of 2000, but our growth continued, and in 2010, construction

began on the educational/youth rooms. The north edition began to

be used in October of 2011.

God's Spirit continues to grow our community. Our current member-

ship sits at 1570 persons; with an average worship attendance exceeding

600 per week.  We serve 120 families though our Preschool and After-School

Care Ministries; 325+ children through our Wednesday/Sunday school

program; and 130 middle and high school youth through our Youth program.

We are actively engaged in mission work through a number of partnerships

with local and international ministries.

Although the shape and ministries of Holy Cross continues to change, we remain committed to the mission that God has given the church: "go and make disciples" (Matthew 28:19).
