Why I Give: Elisha Jastram
Meet Elisha Jastram, a wife (Mark), mother (Max), puppy parent (Indy), book enthusiast, and family woman.
Elisha, a resident of Sioux Falls, and her family, have been members of Holy Cross for more than 8 years.
We caught up with Elisha to learn why she and her family support the ministry of Holy Cross, and to find out more about her life and faith.
Q. Why do you give to Holy Cross?
I give to Holy Cross because we love coming to Holy Cross. On Sunday mornings there's no question where we'll be and that's an incredible feeling, to have a place our family loves and feels like home. I think that's what church is meant to be, a home.
Q. Why is giving to Holy Cross important to you?
Giving to Holy Cross is important to me because I believe that you put your money in what matters and having a faith home where our son has come to love the Lord and views him as a friend matters more than anything.
Q. Why did you choose to give electronically through Mogiv?
We give electronically through Mogiv and love it, it's convenient and consistent, ensuring payment even if we aren't in church.
Q. What was your first gift to philanthropy and why?
My first philanthropic gift was to Children's Miracle Network and I gave it because the Bible teaches us to help those in need and helping sick kids represents a tremendous need.
Q. What are you most proud of in your life?
I am most proud of our Son and his love of the Lord, he knows without a doubt that Jesus loves him, died for him and is always with him, no matter what. This gives him a sense of love and confidence that only a strong spiritual connection can provide.
Q. How does giving to Holy Cross make you feel?
Giving to Holy Cross makes me feel like I'm giving something back to a faith family that has given our family so much.
Q. What would you like to pass on to Future Generations?
I want future generations to experience the same sense of belonging and spirituality we've found at Holy Cross. I want the word of the Lord communicated in a family-centered way to continue for generations to come.
Q. Are there other areas in your life where you give or serve?
I also volunteer with Children's Miracle Network.
Q. What change would you like to see in the world?
I would change the cruelty with which people can treat each other and have everyone follow the golden run to treat others as you want to be treated.
Q. What would you say to others about their gifts to Holy Cross?
I've often heard that's better to give than receive and I believe that with all my heart. I would say to others that giving to Holy Cross is so worthwhile because as a faith family we focus on financial responsibility and providing a meaningful worship experience for everyone and the dollars are well spent.
